SAMPLE ITINERARY - GULF ISLANDS
DAY ONE - GALIANO ISLAND We’ll meet at our downtown rendezvous on Waterfront Road to board our Turbo Otter seaplane. The twenty-minute flight over to the Gulf Islands provides a magnificent bird’s-eye view of Vancouver, the Strait of Georgia and the 200-plus islands that form this magical chain (and their American neighbours, the San Juans). We’ll arrive right to the doorstep of the M. V. Pacific Yellowfin at Galiano Island. With a population of under a thousand, Galiano is considered by many to be the most beautiful of the Gulf Islands. You may think so too once you feast your eyes on Montague Harbour, a gorgeous 97-hectare Marine Park with lush forests, meadows, and a network of beautiful, romantic walks. You’ll be greeted by Captain Colin and his crew with a champagne toast and escorted to your private staterooms, all tastefully decorated with mahogany design and equipped with DVD players and ensuite bathrooms. After some time to refresh and explore the boat’s premises, we’ll go for a cruise ashore in one of the runabout tenders to hike through the park and explore the pristine white shell beaches. Look for cormorants, oystercatchers, starfish and invertebrate life that can be found in the many tidal pools.
For dinner, chef Catherine will begin your culinary experience with a menu that blends West Coast flavours paired with award-winning BC wines. A sample menu might include: Fresh BC Oyster Degustation White Wine Steamed Local Clams and Mussels Scallop Ceviche w/ Cucumber Water and Fish Roe Lobster and Wild BC Salmon Confit served with Corn Purée, Roasted Cauliflower and Sea Asparagus Homemade Lemon Pound Cake
Keep in mind, every trip is tailored to the guests on board, and with our detailed customer profile, the weekends menus will feature many of your favorite foods and wines. After dinner, you may choose to stay up and socialize on the main deck or retire to your stateroom and let the waves rock you to sleep. Tomorrow the real fun begins! Included Meals: Lunch & Dinner as well as cocktails and snacks
DAY TWO - SATURNA ISLAND Today you’ll awake to a delicious breakfast while the crew pulls anchor to leave Galiano for Salt Spring Island: Champagne Mimosa Fruit Skewer Yogurt Granola with Spice Syrup Truffle Scrambled Eggs Spinach and Potato Cake Maple Bacon Blueberry Waffles with Mint Whip Cream
Captain Colin is adept at spotting wildlife on the horizon and will enlighten us while we’re underway. Salt Spring is the largest of the islands, with a population of over 10,000, and has of late become a something of a destination for the rich and famous. The marina at Ganges Harbour is a lively hub that has become famous for the highly popular outdoor Farmer’s Market held every Saturday in the summertime. It’s a great place to meet local artists, crafts people and vegetable growers as well as to explore the many bakeries, coffee shops, ice cream parlours, and boutiques. Lunch will be served on the outside deck at a unique table that rests on a set of spare propellers: Oyster Chowder Braised Herbs Leek and Roasted Fennel Watercress Salad Crispy Skin Seared Salmon Grilled Ahi Tuna This afternoon we’ll relocate the Yellowfin across the sound as we set sail for Saturna Island. En route we stop at a secret spot to set a string of crab traps. Saturna is the second-largest of the archipelago, and with a population of just 300, is the epitome of “unspoiled.” After securing the anchorage in Lyall Harbour, we’ll have an opportunity to cruise in one of the tenders to nearby South Pender Island to hike the trails of Mount Norman. Return for a much-deserved sunset cocktail before sitting down to another perfectly-prepared, fresh west coast dinner matched with another great collection of BC wines. We encourage you to watch chef Catherine who just loves demonstrating how to best prepare the day’s seafood catch: Cured Salmon in Citrus Beet and Orange Salad Baked Sablefish, Spinach and Herb Purée w/ Saffron, Vanilla Prawn Sauce Vierge Coffee Creme
After dinner relax aft of the main salon on the fantail deck for a nightcap and to gaze out at the stars. Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and all snacks and cocktails
DAY THREE - RETURN TO VANCOUVER This unscheduled morning provides the perfect opportunity to paddle around the bay in one of the ocean kayaks. Come face to face with wildlife as you explore the seaside cliffs along Plumper Sound. Catch a glimpse of Saturna Island Winery, the premier wine makers in the region, which is situated on a bench of land nestled on a southerly-facing cliff, its unique climate is similar to the northern Mediterranean.
Crab Cake Three Ways
After lunch, we meet the Yellowfin tenders at the beach to load in the bikes and go explore the rocky islets offshore that provide rookeries for hundreds of seals and sea lions. This is also the best place on the islands to see whales. Finally, we’ll return to the Pacific Yellowfin to pack up our things and say our goodbyes. Your Exposure guides and crew of the Pacific Yellowfin will bid you adieu when the Turbo Otter seaplanes arrive to return you to Vancouver by the middle of the afternoon. Included Meals: Breakfast & Lunch and morning snacks
