Farm to Fork Dinner Series

British Columbia’s amazing bounty is often overlooked and underutilized by our community. 80% of the agricultural crops that are produced in B.C are not consumed in the province, and while no one expects us to eat it all, we can do better.

Edible B.C., in cooperation with local farmers and vintners around the province, is staging a couple dinners in 2006 that will help put the focus back on where our food comes from by introducing diners to some amazing local farms and the people who produce the bounty of the province.

Before heading out for a tour of the farm, your evening commences with a wine tasting with our guest winemaker.  After a taste of local wines, the farm owner or operator guides you on a tour to educate you about the farm and its productions. As the tour concludes and you have worked up a healthy appetite for a farm fresh feast, you are lead to candlelit white linen tables laid out amongst the farm setting. Here you will find local chefs have prepared a five-course meal using the very ingredients you have just learned about on the tour. Dinner is enjoyed family-style, while our agricultural and culinary contributors provide further insight into the evening’s fare, answer any of your questions, and even share recipes.

Dinners begin in the field at 4:00pm and conclude at approximately 9:00 pm. Advance reservations are required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What to expect at an Outstanding in the Field dinner...

As guests arrive, they're welcomed by Edible B.C and the farm hosts and enjoy a cool glass of wine from our partner winery. When everyone has arrived, we begin with a guided tour of the farm. Tours generally run 30 to 45 minutes. Guests then sit down at a long table for a meal composed by the guest chef in the al fresco kitchen using all local ingredients. Dinner is served family style (or farm style) with wines paired to each course. During the meal, the local producers who provided ingredients for the menu will talk a bit about their respective crafts and diners are encouraged to ask questions.

What time does the event begin and how late do they go?

The dinners generally begin at around 4:30pm, wrapping up around sunset. As the days get shorter in the fall, the dinners last until candlelight is required. Length of each event is four to five hours, and guests often linger at-table well past sunset listening to the live music.

What is the price for the dinners and what is included in that price?

The price of the dinners are $100 per person (or $90 pp if you book eight or more spaces), which includes a five course meal with wine pairings, all gratuities, producer discussions, and a tour of the farm.

Can you accommodate vegetarians/vegans at the dinner?

As the dinners showcase a variety of local food artisans, each course is very diverse, including an abundance of fresh produce interspersed with cheese, meat and fish. Everything is served family-style and vegetarians are accommodated quite easily, although a number of the dishes may contain dairy and/or eggs. Please let us know when making reservations if you have any dietary restrictions.

Will I be able to see a copy of the menu before I arrive at the dinner?

To allow the chefs the creativity and freedom to design the freshest and most seasonally appropriate dishes possible, we do not require them to design the menu in advance of the event. Each dinner is truly an adventure in food…we know you’ll love what your guest chef creates.

Is there a reduced ticket price for non-drinkers?

Yes, you receive a $10 reduction off the full ticket value. To make payment, you'll have to call us and we can do the booking over the phone as the price cannot be adjusted online.

Can you accommodate children at the events?

Children are welcome at the event; however, this is not an event for all children (restless, etc.).  With tours, speakers, and wine, we would describe this as more of an adult event. However, we will accommodate children for the $10 off no-alcohol ticket price.

How many people attend the events?

The number of guests range between 50 and 75.

How do I make a reservation?

Please go to our reservations page and book your tickets online.

Do you take reservations for larger parties?

Yes, we do, however, there is no assigned seating. If you do want to all fit together, arrive early to claim seats. We do encourage folks to mix it up at the table. Maybe you’ll get to sit next to the cheese maker! We don’t schedule private parties, as our aim is to be a community event.  For groups larger than 8 people we do offer a discounted rate of $90 pp. To make payment, you'll have to call us and we can do the booking over the phone as the price cannot be adjusted online

How do I make payment?

Please book your tickets using our online booking engine which tracks how many seats are still available. After you booking you will receive a confirmation email.

When will I receive directions to the farm and other important information about the event?

We send out invitations to our confirmed guests one week prior to the event. These will include directions to the farm, helpful hints on farm attire, and all finalized dinner details.

What to wear?

Dinners will be held rain or shine outdoors, so please wear the appropriate clothing and please wear shoes suitable for walking through the fields (i.e. heels and open-toed shoes are not the best choices).
