During our trip to Vancouver Island last week for the Victoria Festival of Wine, we had the chance to catch up on what is happening on the sunny side of the water, aside from all the blossoms being about two weeks ahead of Vancouver.
One of Victoria’s institutions of fine dining caught our attention with a revised menu, and the same great warmth and service that has made it one of the regions must dine places. Café Brio continues to be one of the top proponents of locally sourced ingredients and it shows on their menu. With items like house-made charcuterie using Sloping Hills Farm pork as well as other unique Island grown products, Chef Laurie Munn takes pride in showcasing BC’s finest products. Other items on the menu include Cowichan Bay Farms duck and chicken, local mushrooms as well as a number of BC cheeses. With the menu now focusing on comfort food, but the walls still filled with local art and consummate host Greg Hays at the door, Cafe Brio needs to be on your itinerary the next time you are in Victoria.
And if you live on the Island or plan to be in the capital city on Monday, April 23rd, be sure to make reservations for the B.C. vertical wine tasting dinner featuring wines from some of BC’s top wineries. Some of the wineries include Joie, Pentage, Laughing Stock, Kettle Valley and Fairview Cellars. This is a dinner you won’t want to miss!
